Tech Talk: What to expect at the OBX-Wind race

North America's biggest windsurfing event, OBX-Wind, takes place the week of April 15th-19th in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The event includes freestyle, slalom and long distance racing. With 300 racers expected here are some tips from our team rider Phil Soltysiak to make sure you're ready for the day:

Know how to rig your gear before race day:
Take the time to rig your sail at home before race day. Ensure you have all the right components, and make sure things fit together. On the day of the race you won't have time to fix or replace old components, frayed lines, missing parts or broken battens.

Make sure you're powered, but stay comfortable:
There will be a lot of people racing, so expect a lot of chop and wind turbulence. Err on the side of power when choosing your board and sail. If you're feeling overpowered and out of control moments before the race you can always drop your boom, extend your harness lines and slide your base forward for a more comfortable ride.

Look for clean air and water:
Whenever possible avoid sailing in somebody's board chop or wind shadow. Clean air and water will not only make you faster, but you'll be much more comfortable and have more fun. Focus on your average speed and don't get caught up in 1 on 1 battles on the race course.

If you're in Hatteras and have any questions about Sailworks gear Phil will be there the entire OBX-Wind week. Ask around for Phil or look for his sail number "CAN 9".
