Tech Tip: Foil Maintenance

Protect your Wings - Use wing covers to protect your foil whenever it's not in the water.

Grease your bolts - Apply lithium or marine anti-seize grease to all your foil bolts.

Grease connection points- Apply a thin film of lithium or marine anti-seize grease at any connection points, such as between the wings and fuselage, and fuselage and mast.

Check your barrel nuts and bolts - If you can't hand turn your bolts we recommend re-tapping your barrel nuts and/or changing to fresh bolts. If your bolts are at the deck level of the board look for any burrs and smooth them out to avoid cutting your feet or tearing your sail.

Keep it clean- It's a good idea to rinse off your foil with clean fresh water after every session, especially if you're using it in salt water. Keep greasy fingers and dirt off your foil for optimum attached water flow.

Soap and water - Occasionally clean your foil with soap and water to remove finger oils, sun cream and sticker goo.

Fix dings- Dings not only degrade performance, they are also dangerous. Smooth out any nicks or dings on your foil to prevent injury. You can use 320 or 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.

Check the fit- Regularly check the fit of your foil. Re-apply Sailkote as necessary. Refer to our How to fit Your Foil to Your Board Tech Talk.
