Tech Talk: 6 Foil Jibe Tips

Wide & long - Keep your jibing arc wide, it will keep you feeling stable on the foil. Avoid hooking the end of your jibe.

Subtle movements - Keep all your rig and body movements very subtle. Keep the mast upright and in front of you.

Balance over the wing - When you're going straight downwind during your jibe focus on staying balanced over the foil with your feet and body.

Time your foot change - Change your feet after your sail flip. Keep your footwork close together in tidy, small steps staying between the footstraps.

All downwind - When you're learning do all the footwork, handwork and sail flip while going straight downwind. With the efficiency of a foil you don't need to worry about losing speed quickly.

Touch & go's - Practice jibing low and fast, rather than high and slow.  Practice "touch & go's" rather than crashing jibes. Set the board down softly mid jibe during the sail flip. Switch your feet and as you sheet in allow the board to lift back up. With practice this will transition into a full fledged flying jibe.

***Try this exercise***
Foil straight downwind with your sail de-powered until you lose speed and lift. When the board touches down flip the sail, change your feet, and foil off in the new direction. The goal of the exercise is to learn the balance point over the foil when you're not hanging off the boom.
