Correctly lacing the downhaul line through the mastbase and sail pulleys is important to reduce friction. This makes the downhaul easier to pull so its easier to make controlled adjustments to the sail tuning. Here's a short clip showing how to feed the downhaul line through the pulleys for both aligned and opposed pulley systems for the most efficient and friction-free purchase.
